5 Minutes From Home

5 Minutes From Home is a candid YouTube interview series hosted by Stephen Curry with delicious food, unique guests, and real talk in the backseat of a van.

Stephen Curry’s team came to us to develop a talk show for his YouTube channel. As a part of this creative production, we created a full visual identity involving social branding, title sequences, and video graphics, optimized for YouTube.

EXPLORATION APPROACH

I started the design process by considering platform best practices. Since this show would primarily live on YouTube, I set up clear guidelines for my exploration: big, mobile-legible designs and talent-focused visuals.

My approach to developing the identity centered around bold and sturdy typefaces that would complement Stephen Curry’s brand as an athlete. Our team compiled inspiration from sports brands like Under Armour, Nike, Adidas and entertainment branding.

FINAL DESIGNS

The show creative is focused on creating a casual and down to earth environment for our celebrity guests to exchange real conversation. In the final brand identity, I focused on highlighting this complexity.

I used a strong yet friendly headlining type, Gineso, as the central visual anchor, and set the type as a knockout on a rectangular frame to illustrate looking beyond a celebrity’s public presence.

Beyond the main branding, I kept the type freeform and minimalistic, similar to popular native YouTube content. 5 Minutes From Home was about building Stephen Curry’s presence on YouTube, and over-branding would make the content feel inauthentic. Graphics are always overlays, and large scale graphics are only used to emphasize talent dialogue.

On the platform side, we took over Stephen’s page with a unique series banner, a profile picture specific to the show, and talent-first thumbnails that branded the videos, but more importantly, emphasized the guest for each episode.
